Stress, Burnout & Life Transitions

Not every reason to seek therapy is a diagnosis. Sometimes people arrive because the life they have built no longer fits the person they are, or because they have been running on empty long enough that something has finally given way. Chronic stress, occupational burnout, major transitions — these are real clinical concerns, and they deserve genuine attention rather than coping tip sheets.

Stress becomes a clinical concern when it is persistent enough to disrupt sleep, concentration, physical health, and the capacity to be present in relationships. Burnout — a state of chronic depletion most often associated with work, caregiving, or sustained high-demand roles — can erode a person’s sense of identity and meaning over time, not just their energy levels. Major life transitions, whether chosen or unchosen, can destabilize even people who are otherwise doing well.

At Quandary Peak Counseling, we work with clients navigating all of these — including people who don’t think of themselves as needing therapy in the traditional sense, but who recognize that something needs to change and that they’d benefit from a thoughtful, skilled collaborator in figuring out what that is.

Our approach depends on what the individual needs: sometimes practical and skills-based, sometimes more exploratory, often both.
