Trauma & PTSD

Trauma doesn’t always announce itself clearly. Sometimes it’s a single event that changed everything. Sometimes it’s a slow accumulation — years of experiences that were never quite named or processed. Sometimes it’s the absence of something that should have been there. What trauma shares across all its forms is this: it gets lodged somewhere in the body and the mind and shapes how a person moves through the world, often in ways that were once adaptive and have since become constraints.

At Quandary Peak Counseling, trauma is one of our core areas of clinical expertise. Our clinicians bring experience across a wide range of traumatic presentations — from single-incident PTSD to complex developmental trauma — and we understand that effective trauma work is rarely one-size-fits-all. Some clients need structured, evidence-based protocols. Others need something slower and more exploratory. Most need both, at different moments. Our approach is shaped by what each individual actually requires.

What We Treat

Trauma from assault, accident, or medical experience · Childhood abuse and neglect · Occupational trauma including first responders, corrections officers, and healthcare workers · Complex and developmental trauma · Traumatic loss · PTSD in its various presentations

How We Work

Our clinicians draw on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), exposure-based approaches, trauma-focused CBT, and existential-psychodynamic therapy, tailored to the person and the history. Dr. Cole is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and recognized as an expert in traumatic stress by the American Board for Experts in Traumatic Stress. Maddy Bollinger, LPC, brings additional training in trauma-focused CBT and works with adolescents and young adults navigating trauma in developmental context.
