Addiction And Substance Use

Quandary Peak Counseling

Psychologists located in Denver, CO

Substance use rarely exists in isolation. It is almost always connected to something else — trauma, pain, anxiety, depression, boredom, disconnection, or a life that has come to feel unmanageable in ways that are hard to name. Understanding those connections is at least as important as addressing the substance use itself, and it is where psychotherapy has the most to offer.

Our Approach to Treatment

At Quandary Peak Counseling, we work with clients for whom substance use has become a concern — whether that means a diagnosable use disorder, a pattern that is starting to interfere with work or relationships, or a growing awareness that alcohol or other substances are doing more work than they should in managing discomfort. We work with people across the full range of severity and at different stages of motivation, without requiring a particular level of readiness before treatment can begin.

Our approach is non-judgmental, individualized, and informed by motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral, and trauma-informed frameworks. We also work well with clients managing co-occurring conditions — depression, anxiety, PTSD, and personality-related concerns frequently accompany substance use and require integrated attention.

We are an outpatient practice and are most appropriate for clients who do not require medical detoxification or residential-level care. For clients who need a higher level of care, we are glad to assist with referrals and can provide ongoing psychotherapy support alongside or following more intensive treatment.
