Depression And Mood Disorders

Quandary Peak Counseling

Psychologists located in Denver, CO

Depression is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy — and one of the most frequently misunderstood. It isn't simply sadness, and it isn't always dramatic. Often it looks like a slow flattening: things that used to matter stop mattering, energy becomes unreliable, and the gap between how life looks from the outside and how it actually feels keeps widening.

Treatment Approach

For some people, depression is episodic — tied to a specific loss, transition, or period of stress. For others, it has been present so long it feels like a personality trait rather than a condition. For others still, it cycles with periods of elevated mood, energy, or impulsivity in ways that complicate the picture. All of these presentations deserve careful attention, not a generic treatment plan.

At Quandary Peak Counseling, we approach depression with both diagnostic rigor and clinical flexibility. That means understanding what kind of depression a person is living with — not just applying the same protocol to everyone who reports low mood. It also means being willing to explore the existential and relational dimensions of depression, which are frequently present but rarely addressed in more symptom-focused models.

Our clinicians draw on cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, existential, and humanistic approaches, and work collaboratively with prescribers when medication is part of the picture.
