Bipolar Disorder
Quandary Peak Counseling
Psychologists located in Denver, CO
Bipolar disorder is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed — and misunderstood — conditions in mental health. The dramatic portrayals in popular culture tend to flatten something that is, in reality, highly variable: the range of presentations across bipolar I, bipolar II, cyclothymia, and related mood cycling disorders is broad, and the experience of living with any of them is rarely reducible to a simple pattern of highs and lows.
Bipolar Disorder Approach
People with bipolar disorder often spend years receiving treatment for depression alone, without adequate recognition of the full mood history. Others receive the diagnosis before anyone has taken the time to understand their particular pattern — the frequency, duration, and character of their episodes, the role of sleep and stress, the impact on relationships and work, and what has and hasn't helped before.
At Quandary Peak Counseling, we bring careful diagnostic attention to mood-related presentations. For clients who are already diagnosed, we offer psychotherapy that takes the full picture seriously — not just symptom management, but the existential and relational dimensions of living with a condition that can feel unpredictable. For clients who are uncertain about their diagnosis or whose mood history has never been thoroughly assessed, we can provide that evaluation.
We work collaboratively with prescribers when medication is part of the treatment picture, and we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach to a disorder that varies considerably from person to person.
